First Class Tickets
Travelling First Class promises you a spacious, peaceful and comfortable environment, together with complimentary refreshments on most services. Please note that family railcards do not offer a discount on any First Class ticket, and Young Person’s railcard holders can only obtain a discount on First Class Value Advance Fares.
Purchase Anytime:
Please note that the following tickets can be purchased at any time, however we do advise that you book ahead to get a seat reservation where possible. Tickets are fully refundable less the appropriate administration fee. For further information please enquire when buying your ticket.
First Open Return
This ticket offers you full flexibility and can be used on any train within one calendar month of valid from date on the outward portion of the ticket, on both outward and return journeys. It’s valid for travel on all train operators’ services via the route specified on the ticket. It is also possible to break your journey on the outward or return journey.
First Day Return
This ticket offers you full flexibility and can be used on any train on the date specified on the outward portion of the ticket, on both outward and return journeys. It’s valid for travel on all train operators’ services via the route specified on the ticket.
First Day Single/First Open Single
This ticket offers you full flexibility and can be used on any train on the date specified on the ticket. It’s valid for travel on all train operators’ services via the route specified on the ticket.
First Saver Return
(Valid for travel on or after 18 May 2008)
This ticket can be used only on off peak services of all train operators, via the route specified on the ticket. The outward portion can be used on the date specified on the ticket and no break of journey is allowed except when changing trains. The return portion can be used on any off peak service within one calendar month and it is possible to have a break in your journey.
Purchase in Advance only:
Please note that the following tickets must be purchased at least one day before travel and are offered subject to availability. Refund restrictions apply to these tickets and the tickets are only valid for travel on the date and time specified on the ticket.
Value Advance First A/B/C
(Valid for travel up to and including 17 May 2008)
These are our cheapest tickets and are generally only available on quieter services. The tickets are subject to availability at all times, and can only be used on the service(s) specified on the ticket or accompanying reservation confirmation. Please note that these tickets are not refundable, however changes are permitted to a later service than originally booked - subject to an administration fee plus any difference in fare between the fare paid and the cheapest available fare.
Advance First 1/2/3/4/5
(Valid for travel on or after 18 May 2008)
These tickets will replace our Value Advance First A/B/C tickets and will be available for travel on or after 18 May 2008.
These will be our cheapest tickets and will generally only available on quieter services. The tickets are subject to availability at all times, and can only be used on the service(s) specified on the ticket or accompanying reservation confirmation. Please note that these tickets are not refundable, however changes are permitted to a later service than originally booked - subject to an administration fee plus any difference in fare between the fare paid and the cheapest available fare.
Weekend Upgrade:
The Weekend Upgrade ticket costs from £10.00 and offers the benefits of First Class travel to those travelling at the weekend. Please note that Child and Railcard discounts do not apply. You can purchase the Weekend Upgrade on Saturdays/Sundays and selected Bank Holidays provided you hold a valid Standard Class ticket on board the train, and subject to space being available in First Class. If purchasing your ticket at the station it is possible to purchase the upgrade in advance with a Standard Class ticket and reserve a seat, but we cannot guarantee a seat will be available if you choose to travel on an alternative service.
Please note it is not possible to purchase an upgrade in conjunction with all types of ticket, customers holding Standard Class Value Advance fares cannot purchase the First Class upgrade. We would suggest that you purchase a Value Advance First ticket for your journey if you are looking to travel in First Class.
