Assisted Travel

If you need extra assistance when travelling on CrossCountry Trains, give us a call.

We’ll look after you

Our aim is to make travelling with us as easy and enjoyable as possible, especially if you need extra assistance, and that could be anything from getting on and off the train, to travelling with small children. By phoning us before you travel we’ll try, wherever possible, to have one of our staff meet and help you throughout your journey, not just when travelling with us but across the wider rail network as well.

If you’d like advice on the facilities on our stations and trains our CrossCountry Journey Care reservation service can help, or just check details for all the stations we call at.

We have dedicated spaces for wheelchair users in both First and Standard class accommodation on all our trains. If you need help getting on and off the train, we will make arrangements for you to be helped throughout your journey - that includes any changes you need to make.

Please try and let us know 24 hours before you want to travel and what help you’ll need, we’ll then know when you’re travelling and can let you know what arrangements we’ve made for you. Sometimes life can’t always be planned 24 hours in advance, however we’ll still do our best to provide the same level of help – just make the station and train staff aware.

Also if you’re travelling with small children, have trouble communicating in English, or are not confident with going by train we’re very happy to help. We want you to travel with us and we will always try to make your journey easier.

Railcard

A Railcard is available for passengers with disabilities which entitles the holder and their companion to discounted rail travel route-wide. To find out more, visit www.railcard.co.uk or pick up a leaflet at any National Rail ticket office. If you have bought a discounted ticket, don’t forget that it will only be valid if presented with the Railcard.

Disabled People’s Protection Policy

We also publish a Disabled People’s Protection Policy (DPPP), which sets out the full range of services you can expect from us. This includes the right to buy your ticket on the train (for you and one person travelling with you) without facing any extra charges or penalties, if you hold a valid Disabled Person’s Railcard. You can download the DPPP or get a copy from our CrossCountry Care and customer relations offices.

We can also provide timetables and other information in other formats such as in large print and on audiotape.
