How do I reserve a place for my bicycle?

Unfortunately we are unable to process bicycle reservations through our website.

However, one of our support team can process these requests over the phone by calling 0844 811 0124.

Although bicycle reservations can be made after booking online, we recommend making your booking and bicycle reservation together through our call centre so we can confirm whether bicycle spaces are available on the train you wish to travel on. Please visit our 'Cyclists' page for further information.

How do I reserve a seat?

Online seat reservations

For all Advance purchase fares booked on our website our system will automatically reserve a seat free of charge. On CrossCountry services you can review and change your seating options by clicking on your specified seat and then using our seat plan to select your own seat. For Anytime fares the site will ask whether you want a seat reserved. This is in case you have not made a decision on when you want to travel or would prefer not to be tied down to a particular train.

We are not always able to reserve seats. This could be because:

  • the train services you are travelling on do not offer seat reservations e.g. if it is a short journey.
  • the train on which you wish to travel is full at the time of booking.

Even without a seat reservation your tickets are still valid and you can sit in any vacant unreserved seat for the appropriate class of travel for your journey.

Reserving a seat after making a booking
A seat reservation can be requested up to two hours before travel by calling our customer support team on 0844 811 0124. Alternatively you can visit your local station and arrange a reservation. This is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the ticket and availability is not guaranteed.

Why are my reserved seats not grouped together?

If you have booked more than one ticket our system will always try and group seats together. If your seats are not grouped together then either:

  • the train is full, only limited availability left
  • the ticket types you have booked don't match
  • 2 separate bookings were made independently of each other

You can call our customer support team on 0844 811 0124 and they will try to reserve seats together.  On many long distance routes there are usually non-reservable carriages so you may be able to find seats together on the day of travel.
