What to do in Leicester

From ancient Egypt at the New Walk Museum to the spectacular National Space Centre, Leicester is a city for all ages and interests. A regional shopping centre, it's also home to beautiful countryside, waterways, culture and exciting family fun days out. You can even take a trip on the canal!

National Space Centre

The award winning National Space Centre is the UK's largest attraction dedicated to space. Home to the UK's largest 360° planetarium, the Centre offers a hands-on, interactive journey through six stunning galleries, Rocket Tower, and S.I.M ride that offers an experience that is out of this world. The centre is reachable by bus or taxi from the station. 

The Little Theatre

The Little Theatreis a small theatre in Leicester, with the main auditorium having 349 seats, along with an additional studio space for performances and workshops. The theatre is home to the Leicester Drama Society, and the programme mainly showcases plays from local amateur theatre companies as well as hosting some professional acts and wider community groups, usually for short runs or one night events. The Theatre is only a short walk from the station.

Highcross shopping centre

Highcross shopping centre have a great mix of fashionable shops and tasty restaurants. It offers 13 cades and restaurants and a 12 screen Cinema de Lux. So, if you're searching for a one stop shopping experience Highcross shopping centre is the one for you! Debenhams, House of Frasers and a flasgship John Lewis store are spreadd over extrernal street spaces and a covered mall. Plus, Highcross is located right in the city centre so is easy to get to from the station. 

Jewry Wall Museum

From ancient stone tools to Medieval decorated tiles that have come from Leicester Abbey, the museum has something for everyone.  You can learn about the archaeology and the people of Leicester from Prehistoric times to the Medieval period. The grounds have one of Leicester's most famous landmarks; the Jewry Wall, which is part of the Roman town's public baths and thought to be one of the tallest surviving pieces of Roman masonry in the country. Leicester's Roman history continues inside, with collections including detailed mosaics, intricate painted wall plaster and a beautiful Roman cavalry helmet cheekpiece. So, from ancient stone tools to striking Medieval decorated tiles from Leicester Abbey, there's something to interest the whole family. The museum is approximately a ten minute walk across the city centre from Leicester station.
