Rediscover Devon and Cornwall

Celebrate the re-opening of the railway line linking Devon and Cornwall with the rest of Great Britain.

Devon and Cornwall are pretty spectacular places to visit, so why not hop on a CrossCountry train and see for yourself that Devon and Cornwall are well and truly open for business.

Here are a few ideas of great locations and attractions you can visit in these areas:

Dartmoor's Beckey Falls

Located within Dartmoor National Park, Beckey Falls has been voted Devon's Top Beauty Spot. Surrounded by over 50 acres of woodland, the ancient valley has been attracting visitors for hundreds of years.  The falls has something for everyone with miles of woodland discovery trails with varying difficulty, animal displays, outdoor and indoor activities including an indoor theater, children's crafts and cafeteria serving up a traditional cream tea, which is sure to be a prefect treat.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park and Living Coasts

With over 2000 exotic animals from across the globe and two on-site nature reserves, Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is the perfect place for all ages to spend an exciting day discovering and learning about the natural world. Visitors can listen to keepers talk about various animals' behaviour and watch some of the animals at feeding time. There are a wide range of activities and events running throughout the year, at the moment you can visit the Zoo's latest addition, a baby Rothschild's giraffe.

Living Coasts is an all-weather zoo attraction, located on Torquay seafront in South Devon, where there's plenty to see and do: mingle with the playful penguins, get up close to the otters, octopus and seals, and much more. Visit Penguin Beach to walk with the African and macaroni penguins and catch the entertaining feeding time talks. Below the decks the fun doesn't stop. With more fascinating habitats and creatures, there are games, activities and panoramic underwater viewing areas for the stunning species.

A joint saver ticket can be purchased to gain access to both the Living Coats and Paignton zoos for a 20% discount, find out more here.

National Marine Aquarium

Plymouth is home to the UK's largest aquarium, the National Marine Aquarium, which houses a whole host of underwater creatures, including over 70 sharks from more than 10 different species, turtles, jellyfish and seahorses. In one trip to the Aquarium you can discover what is on the shores of Britain and on into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. With a great selection of family activities and something for everyone to enjoy, the Aquarium is a perfect day out in Plymouth.

Eden Project

Home to stunning gardens and two artificial biomes filled with plant species from all over the world the Eden Project is one of Cornwall's main tourist attractions. It's a fantastic place to visit to learn about climate and environment. The project wants to inspire people to get involved in the world around them and aims to create a lasting impression and a memorable day out for everyone who visits.

Visitors to the Eden Project can get a Green travel discount of £4 per person at ticketing when arriving by train/bus/cycle or walking. For more information please visit the Eden project website.

Lost Gardens of Heligan

Buried beneath years of overgrowth and left to decay the Lost Gardens of Heligan were a hidden delight for many years. Now lovingly restored to their former glory the gardens are now open for the public to rediscover and enjoy. With 200 acres to explore the award winning garden is a hidden gem no longer.
