Station Finder

Best known for its castle, the historic town of Tamworth has a past that stretches back to Saxon times. However, it’s not stuck in a bygone era – Tamworth offers visitors plenty of activities to enjoy, including the amazing Drayton Manor Theme Park.

How far is the town centre?

A compact town means that Tamworth Station is conveniently located a short distance from the town centre and main shopping areas. There is also a regular bus service.

Tamworth’s compact nature makes it perfect for shopping. Whether you’re looking for a gift for a loved one or a treat for yourself, you’re sure to find it in Tamworth. There’s a range of high street favourites, as well as unique independents. The centrally-located Ankerside Shopping Centre has more than 60 shops to choose from.

Alternatively, just a 10-minute walk from the town centre you’ll find Ventura Park, a compact retail park, which features all the shops you could ask for alongside a choice of restaurants and cafés. You can shop ‘til you drop, grab a bite to eat and sip on a cup of tea, and then start again.

Tamworth also offers a busy market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays where you can pick up fresh produce, as well as clothes and well-priced treasures. This is the perfect choice for those who prefer to hunt around for a bargain.

Food & Drink

You’ll find plenty of choice when it comes to food and drink in Tamworth. With a great range from your favourite chains to one-of-a-kind local independents - there’s something for everyone. Choose between a cheeky Nando’s and the local Champagne Indian Fusion, or the famous Greg’s and Christopher’s British Bistro. There’s also an outstanding choice of takeaway places.

You can barely round a corner in Tamworth without stumbling upon a pub. You’ll find the usual chain favourites and traditional locals alike housed in unique historic buildings. Some of our favourites include the choice of Real Ale Pubs that serve locally-brewed pints. The Tamworth Brewery Co. on Market Street is also highly recommended.

There’s also a thriving café culture in Tamworth. The excellent variety of cafés serving independently-roasted coffee and delicious cakes encourage you to curl up in a comfy seat and read a book, or you can simply watch the world go by.

Can you think of another town where you can visit both a historic castle and go skiing in a state-of-the-art snowdome? Neither can we. Tamworth offers something for everyone, so whether you’re looking for a family day out or a quiet weekend away, this country town is an excellent choice.

Many people travelling to Tamworth might only have one destination in mind: Drayton Manor Theme Park. For more info visit our dedicated page, but suffice to say, there’s plenty of attractions, rides, food and drink options to keep all the family entertained. There’s even an on-site hotel, so you can make a weekend of it.

Although it’s within easy travelling distance of Birmingham and Stafford, there’s a country-esque feel to Tamworth. If you’re spending time in the area, we recommend exploring the local countryside where you will find farms, craft shops and more. Local attractions such as Middleton Hall and Gardens are also great to explore.

Does Tamworth Station have step-free access?

Tamworth Station has step-free access throughout. Both accessible ticket office counters and accessible ticket machines are available in the station, as are ramps for train access. Accessible taxis are available at Tamworth Station and we would recommend booking these in advance.

Onward travel

Tamworth is served by a useful bus system, with regular connections around town and to the surrounding villages and countryside. Alternatively, a taxi rank is available at the station.
