The easiest way to get to the Cheshire town of Macclesfield is to hop on a train, to Macclesfield train station, and get your adventure started. Connecting Macclesfield to a range of towns and cities across the UK, both locally and further afield is Macclesfield train station which has been servicing passengers since 1849.
Macclesfield station originally opened to service a direct route to Manchester on the LNWR line, and the station rapidly expanded in the decades following. There have been a few notable iterations of the station, as temporary stations to serve Macclesfield town were built during renovations and refurbishments to train lines. In 1960, the Macclesfield station we see today became the primary station to serve the town, with the closure of Macclesfield Hibel Road and the renaming of the former Macclesfield Central. There was a rebuilding project to secure this change, and Macclesfield was rebuilt in the brutalist architecture style that was popular at the time.
Reaching Macclesfield for weekends away, days out, business or onward journeys is straightforward with a range of routes. Macclesfield station is currently serviced by Avanti West Coast, Northern, and CrossCountry trains. Popular routes on CrossCountry include Bristol to Macclesfield, Cardiff to Macclesfield, Oxford to Macclesfield, and, of course, the route that started it all: Manchester to Macclesfield.
