Things to do at Wookey Hole Caves

The site of Wookey Hole caves is home to a cavernous wonder of naturally settled sedimentary rock, dating back millions of years. Take a tour of the caves with one of Wookey Hole’s knowledgeable tour guides, who will help you distinguish your stalagmites from your stalactites. As they guide you through the winding tunnels, they’ll share a wide range of fun Wookey Hole facts, including details about the puddingstone that makes up a large portion of the caves.

You might think Wookey Hole is all about its gigantic caves, but there’s so much more to enjoy for the entire family. Open for ten months of the year, Wookey Hole Caves mini golf offers a nine-hole pirate-themed course, with a round included in your ticket. Crazy golf is one of the best activities the whole family involved, especially on a day when the sun is shining!

There are also plenty of other areas to feed your appetite for adventure beyond the caves, including the Enchanted Valley. As you explore the valley, marvel at the natural beauty of lush greenery and glistening streams that surround the area. The valley has proven to be a popular destination for weddings in the local area too, highlighting just how captivating and enchanting this natural wonder is.

Among its curiosities, The Hyena’s Den stands out as a site of ancient importance. Back in the 1850s, it was here that workmen discovered bones of a wide-ranging group of Ice Age animals, including mammoths and cave lions. The den is named after the spotted hyenas that would shelter here thousands of years ago, evidenced by the abundance of gnawed bones left from their feeding.

Continue your adventure with a visit to Dinosaur Grove, where your little ones can get up close to some of the wildest and largest beasts from millions of years ago. Be transported back to a land before time and walk amongst towering animatronic dinosaurs spread across the valley. Throughout the year, Wookey Hole plays host to a number of events, ranging from classic family pantomimes to comedy nights at The Comedy Cavern. What better backdrop to a comedy night or a pantomime is there than the looming presence of the caves?
