Buses replace trains between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog until further notice

    Train companies affected

    Transport for Wales

    Routes affected

Between Llandudno Junction / Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog

    Description

Following severe flooding on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 March, damage has occurred to the infrastructure in multiple locations along the Conwy Valley line. Trains are currently unable to run between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The line is expected to reopen in the summer, although an exact date has yet to be confirmed.

How does this affect my journey?

Until the line reopens, buses will replace trains between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The line remains closed as significant repair work is being undertaken. Specialist engineers have been busy designing a tunnel to carry water underneath the railway, constructing embankments, removing debris and refurbishing level crossings, in order to safely restore the track.

You can view images of the damage here.

    Bus information:

The buses will run to the attached timetable on Monday to Saturday, subject to traffic conditions. A less frequent service runs on a Sunday. Customers with restricted mobility and bus accessibility restrictions (e.g. wheelchairs or mobility scooters) will be provided with special transport arrangements. We strongly advise that such customers contact Transport for Wales as far in advance of planned journeys as possible.

You can find the location of your bus replacement by checking station signs or by searching for your station on our station information pages.

Bicycles are not allowed on rail replacement bus services at any time, unless fully folded. More travel advice for your replacement bus journey is available by selecting Transport for Wales here

Buses replace trains between Boston and Skegness until at least Tuesday 18 June

    Train companies affected

    East Midlands Trains

    Routes affected

Trains between Nottingham / Boston and Skegness

    Description

Flooding on the railway in the Thorpe Culvert area has resulted in all lines being blocked between Boston and Skegness.

Network Rail have carried out further assessments and have advised that trains will be unable to run between Boston and Skegness until at least Tuesday 18 June with the possibility of this being extended depending on how the water level subsides and what repairs to the infrastructure may be required.

Further updates will be posted here when made available. An image showing the level of flooding can be found here and here.

How does this affect my journey?

We still do not have a firm estimate as to when the line will reopen. We do however, know that the earliest the line may be available is Tuesday 18th June 2019.

Buses are currently running between Boston and Skegness, however, the roads between the two locations are also flooded and subject to deterioration. With this in mind, East Midlands Trains are strongly advising you NOT to travel to / from Skegness.

East Midlands Trains will do everything in their power to continue to run the replacement bus service as long as it remains safe to do so.

Please note, buses are unable to call at Wainfleet due to the flooding.

Trains will continue to run between Nottingham and Boston in each direction.

    Additional information:

Network Rail are on site working to reduce the flooding. Staff are monitoring the water levels in the surrounding area and have concerns that the level has not dropped sufficiently to enable the safe running of trains.

There are additional concerns regarding electrical cables and damage that may have occurred due to the flooding. The decision has been taken to keep the route closed whilst the flooding and track are monitored and checked for safety.
