December 2018 timetable change

Train times and tickets are usually available for customers to plan and book their journeys up to 12 weeks before departure. However, for the duration of the next timetable beginning on 9th December, some may not be available until closer to the date of departure.

The majority of weekday services will be unaffected, although journeys at weekends are likely to see changes to the expected timetable.

There will be a slight delay whilst we work on releasing Advance purchase tickets and seat reservations for all of our trains from the 9th December.

Further updates will be available shortly.

What this means for buying tickets

With only a small number of trains affected by engineering works, we want customers to continue planning their journeys with confidence and CrossCountry have put in place a series of measures to reassure them.

Purchasing tickets between 12 and 6 weeks prior to departure

Customers will still be able to purchase Anytime and Off-Peak train tickets 12 weeks before departure, however CrossCountry Advance tickets may not be available until six weeks before departure due to timetables not being finalised.

Purchasing tickets on other operators

If a customer purchases a ticket more than six weeks before their journey, they should check back with the train operator they will be travelling with at the six weeks mark to see if their train time has been altered. If so, and they then do not wish to travel, they can request a refund from their original retailer.

Purchasing tickets for CrossCountry services

If you booked between 12 and 6 weeks before your travel date and your journey has been affected, you can travel on an alternative CrossCountry train two hours either side of your original service, although any seat reservation on the original train cannot be honoured on the other service.

How can I find out if my journey will be affected?

If you are due to travel within the next six weeks, you can see if your journey has changed by searching our website.

If your travel date is more than six weeks in advance, you can select your travel date in the “by date” tab which will allow you to search for the work being carried out on the network. If engineering work is happening on your travel date you will see a list of results, which you can select to view more information.

You can also use our route map to see which of these engineering works may affect your journey.

Disruption between Havant and Guildford expected until the end of the day

    Train companies affected

    South Western Railway

    Routes affected

Between Portsmouth Harbour and London Waterloo

    Description

A broken rail between Havant and Guildford means trains have to run at reduced speed on the London bound line. As a result of this, trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.

    Customer Advice:

There is a broken rail between Havant and Haslemere. Network Rail staff are on site and have made the rail safe for trains to pass over it at 5mph. However, owing to the location and nature of the issue, this speed restriction is in place for approximately 1.5 miles. The full repair will not be able to be made until services have finished tonight.

Disruption between Kentish Town and London Blackfriars until the end of service

    Train companies affected

    Thameslink

    Routes affected

    Between Kentish Town and Orpington

    Description

A fault with the signalling system at Kentish Town and an earlier broken down train at Farringdon are disrupting trains running between Kentish Town and London Blackfriars.

This is expected to continue until the end of service.

How is this currently affecting the train service?

    • Trains between London St Pancras International and London Blackfriars may be delayed by up to 15 minutes.
    • Orpington to Kentish Town services will terminate at London Blackfriars. If you're travelling from Kentish Town and require an Orpington service, please travel on an alternative service towards London Blackfriars and change.
    • Kentish Town to Orpington services will start at London Blackfriars. If you're travelling from Orpington and require Kentish Town, please change at London Blackfriars for a service towards St Albans or Bedford.

As a result, there will be a slightly reduced, but still frequent service at the following stations:

    • London St Pancras International
    • Farringdon
    • City Thameslink

We recommend that you recheck your required service prior to boarding or alternatively, speak to station staff if you're unsure.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
Network Rail have confirmed a fault with their signalling system in the Kentish Town area which is disrupting services running between Kentish Town and Orpington.

The failure has been traced back to an issue with the electrical equipment, and requires further inspection by signalling engineers who are already on site.

Earlier this evening a non passenger train came to a stand just outside of Farringdon station due to reports of a power issue.

Whilst the crew on board this service performed the relevant troubleshooting process, the southbound line was blocked and services behind came to a halt. As of 21:52, the train affected is now on the move and all nearby services have been given the authority to continue.
