    Amended service between Birmingham New Street and Rugby / Leamington Spa from Friday 19 until Monday 22 April

    Train companies affected

    CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway, Virgin Trains

    Routes affected

    CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Reading / Bournemouth and also between Manchester Piccadilly and Bournemouth / Southampton Central

    London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and Coventry / London Euston / Northampton

    Virgin Trains between Glasgow Central / Birmingham New Street / Edinburgh / Wolverhampton / Crewe / Shrewsbury and London Euston 

    Description

    Engineering work is taking place between Berkswell and Coventry, closing all lines.

    CrossCountry

    Trains will divert via Solihull, not calling at Birmingham International and Coventry. Journey times between Birmingham New Street and Leamington Spa will be unaffected. 

    A replacement bus service will run between Birmingham International, Coventry and Leamington Spa.

    London Northwestern Railway

    Saturday and Sunday, buses will replace trains between Birmingham International and Rugby. A half hourly train service will also run between Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International.

    On Monday, the train services between Northampton / Milton Keynes Central / Tring and London Euston will not run.

    There is no through train service between Crewe / Birmingham New Street and London Euston.

    Trains between Crewe / Birmingham New Street and London Euston will only run between Crewe / Birmingham New Street and Northampton. 

    Trains will run to a special half hourly timetable between Northampton and Harrow & Wealdstone.

    Customers with valid tickets travelling between Harrow & Wealdstone and London Euston should use other train operators to complete their journey.

    Virgin Trains

    Buses will replace trains between Birmingham International and Rugby.

    Buses replace trains between Gloucester / Chepstow and Newport from Friday 19 to Monday 22 April

    Transport for Wales between Cheltenham Spa and Maesteg, and between Gloucester and Fishguard Harbour

    Description

    Engineering work is taking place between Chepstow and Newport, closing all lines.

    CrossCountry

    As a result of this, buses will replace trains between Chepstow and Newport.

    On Monday, the 05:20 Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff Central service will not run, a bus will run from Bristol Temple Meads at 05:20, calling at Bristol Parkway at 05:40 and Newport at 06:18.

    Transport for Wales

    Buses replace trains between Gloucester and Newport.

    Amended service between Crewe and Glasgow / Edinburgh and through Motherwell from Friday 19 to Monday 22 April

    Routes affected

    All routes through Motherwell

    Description

    Engineering work is taking place over the Easter weekend in the Lancaster, Carlisle, Rutherglen and Motherwell areas closing most lines.

    As a result, your journey times to or from Scotland on the West Coast Main Line, between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and locally within the Glasgow area may be considerably extended.

    Caledonian Sleeper

    The Friday night departure from London Kings Cross to Glasgow Central will be diverted between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central and will be unable to call at Motherwell and Carstairs. These works will also affect Sunday departures.

    CrossCountry

    On Saturday and Sunday, buses will replace trains between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.

    London North Eastern Railway

    On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, trains will terminate at Edinburgh, a replacement bus service will operate between Edinburgh and Motherwell. Customers for Glasgow should use ScotRail services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street.

    ScotRail

    Saturday 20 April

    • Glasgow Central - Edinburgh (via Carstairs): Trains will be replaced by buses.
    • Glasgow Central - Edinburgh (via Shotts): Trains will only run between Carfin and Edinburgh, buses will run between Glasgow Central and Shotts.
    • Glasgow Central - Newton: These services will be extended to Larkhall and Motherwell.
    • Glasgow Central - Lanark: These services will be replaced by buses between Motherwell and Lanark.
    • Glasgow Central Low Level services will operate to a revised timetable.
    • Buses will run between Bridgeton and Motherwell (via Whifflet), and between Bridgeton and Newton.

    Sunday 21 April

    • Glasgow Central - Edinburgh (via Shotts): Trains will only run between Carfin and Edinburgh, buses will run between Glasgow Central and Shotts.
    • Glasgow Central - Newton: Services will be extended to Larkhall and Motherwell.
    • Glasgow Central - Lanark: Trains will be replaced by buses between Motherwell and Lanark.
    • Glasgow Central Low Level services will operate to a revised timetable.
    • Buses will run between Bridgeton and Motherwell (via Whifflet), and between Bridgeton and Motherwell (via Hamilton).

    Monday 22 April

    • Glasgow Central - Edinburgh (via Carstairs): Trains will run between Motherwell and Edinburgh only.
    • Glasgow Central - Edinburgh (via Shotts): Trains will only run between Carfin and Edinburgh, buses will run between Glasgow Central and Shotts.
    • Glasgow Central - Newton: Services will be extended to Larkhall and Motherwell.
    • Glasgow Central - Lanark: An hourly service will operate via Mount Florida, and will not call at Cambuslang. Buses will run between Glasgow Central and Lanark.
    • Glasgow Central Low Level services will operate to a revised timetable.
    • Buses will run between Bridgeton and Motherwell (via Whifflet), and between Bridgeton and Newton.

    TransPennine Express

    Saturday, Sunday & Monday (until 12:00)

    Coaches will replace trains between Lancaster and Carlisle calling at Oxenholme and Penrith, extending journey times by approx 75 minutes.

    Saturday, Sunday and Monday

    Coaches will replace trains between Carlisle and Edinburgh calling at Lockerbie with journey times extended by approx 85 minutes.

    No coaches can call at Haymarket - customers should use Edinburgh station instead.

    Customers travelling between Scotland and Manchester are advised to use services routed via Newcastle and Leeds.

    Virgin Trains

    Saturday, Sunday and Monday

    Throughout the period of this engineering, work there is NO direct service between Crewe and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh and customers may have to change replacement coaches to complete their journey.

    Trains will be diverted between Crewe and Preston via but not calling at Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton and will not call at Warrington Bank Quay or Wigan North Western.

    Replacement coaches will run between Crewe and Preston calling at Warrington Bank Quay and Wigan North Western.

    Replacement coaches will run between Preston / Lancaster and Carlisle and between Carlisle and Glasgow Central.

    Customers travelling to / from Edinburgh should use TransPennine Express coaches between Carlisle and Edinburgh.

    Customers for Motherwell need to travel via Glasgow Central and use alternative services provided by ScotRail.
