December 2018 timetable change

Train times and tickets are usually available for customers to plan and book their journeys up to 12 weeks before departure. However, for the duration of the next timetable beginning on 9th December, some may not be available until closer to the date of departure.

The majority of weekday services will be unaffected, although journeys at weekends are likely to see changes to the expected timetable.

There will be a slight delay whilst we work on releasing Advance purchase tickets and seat reservations for all of our trains from the 9th December.

Further updates will be available shortly.

What this means for buying tickets

With only a small number of trains affected by engineering works, we want customers to continue planning their journeys with confidence and CrossCountry have put in place a series of measures to reassure them.

Purchasing tickets between 12 and 6 weeks prior to departure

Customers will still be able to purchase Anytime and Off-Peak train tickets 12 weeks before departure, however CrossCountry Advance tickets may not be available until six weeks before departure due to timetables not being finalised.

Purchasing tickets on other operators

If a customer purchases a ticket more than six weeks before their journey, they should check back with the train operator they will be travelling with at the six weeks mark to see if their train time has been altered. If so, and they then do not wish to travel, they can request a refund from their original retailer.

Purchasing tickets for CrossCountry services

If you booked between 12 and 6 weeks before your travel date and your journey has been affected, you can travel on an alternative CrossCountry train two hours either side of your original service, although any seat reservation on the original train cannot be honoured on the other service.

How can I find out if my journey will be affected?

If you are due to travel within the next six weeks, you can see if your journey has changed by searching our website.

If your travel date is more than six weeks in advance, you can select your travel date in the “by date” tab which will allow you to search for the work being carried out on the network. If engineering work is happening on your travel date you will see a list of results, which you can select to view more information.

You can also use our route map to see which of these engineering works may affect your journey.

Bexleyheath Line - Between Slade Green / Crayford / Dartford / Barnehurst and London Charing Cross / London Cannon Street / London Victoria

    Description

Last Monday, there was a landslip on a railway cutting between Bexleyheath and Barnehurst, resulting in 300 tonnes of debris and trees falling to the track. As a result, the line is blocked in both directions.

Because of this, Network Rail have had to close the Bexleyheath Line (between Blackheath and Barnehurst) to allow for repairs to take place.

The latest update from the teams on site indicates that work is progressing well and we're expecting the line to re-open in time for tomorrow morning, Monday 18th February. We'll keep you updated here with the very latest information as the work progresses. You can view images of the landslip here.

How does this affect my journey?

No trains will operate on the Bexleyheath line until the line re-opens. Trains that would normally operate via Bexleyheath will be diverted via Sidcup or Woolwich, with some trains cancelled in their entirety.

Diverting the trains means we can provide extra capacity on the Sidcup and Woolwich lines as we know these trains will be extremely busy.

What do I need to do?
All service alterations for today, Saturday and Sunday are now showing in journey planners.

We're running replacement buses between Lewisham and Dartford via Bexleyheath and you can use your ticket at no extra cost on London Buses on routes between Lewisham and Dartford, so that you can travel to alternative stations on the Woolwich or Sidcup lines. The buses will be operating approximately every 30 minutes in both directions. At times, due to traffic along the route, journeys may take longer than advertised.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on:

    • London Underground between London Victoria, London Charing Cross, London Bridge and London Cannon Street
    • Docklands Light Railway on reasonable routes between central London, Lewisham, Greenwich and Woolwich Arsenal
    • Thameslink services between London Blackfriars and Gravesend, and between London Blackfriars and Denmark Hill.

For details of London Bus services running to / from and between the affected stations, please use the following links:

For further details please visit: www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/barnehurst

Please be aware that car parks on alternative lines via Sidcup or Woolwich are seeing heavy usage and some are full. Please consider using either the replacement bus service or London Buses instead of driving to alternative stations.

    Routes affected

Bexleyheath Line - Between Slade Green / Crayford / Dartford / Barnehurst and London Charing Cross / London Cannon Street / London Victoria

    Description

On Monday morning, there was a landslip on a railway cutting between Bexleyheath and Barnehurst, resulting in 300 tonnes of debris and trees falling to the track.
