Buses replace trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Crianlarich until the end of service

    Train companies affected

    Caledonian Sleeper, ScotRail

    Routes affected

Caledonian Sleeper between London Euston and Fort William

ScotRail between Glasgow Queen Street and Oban / Fort William / Mallaig

    Description

Heavy rain has caused extensive damage to the railway at various locations between Ardlui and Tyndrum. This is causing disruption to trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Oban / Mallaig.

Network Rail have advised that repairs to the line between Ardlui and Crianlarich will be completed ahead of schedule and the line will now open on Monday 19 August.

How is this affecting the train service?

Caledonian Sleeper - The Highland Sleeper will not run from Fort William to Edinburgh on Sunday 18 August. Buses will be provided to run directly from Fort William to Edinburgh.

We anticipate that the Highland Sleeper from London Euston to Fort William will be able to run on Sunday 18 August as scheduled, and will not be affected.

For further information, customers should refer to the Caledonian Sleeper website.

ScotRail - the following alterations are in place:

    • Trains will run between Crianlarich and Oban
    • Trains will run between Crianlarich, Fort William and Mallaig
    • A replacement bus service will operate between Glasgow Queen Street and Crianlarich
    • A replacement bus service will also run between Arrochar & Tarbet, Ardlui and Crianlarich

    Replacement bus information:

The replacement bus pick up / drop off point at Crianlarich Station will not be the Station car park as advertised. Instead, coaches will drop off and pick up on the A85 in Crianlarich, outside the police station.

Please note, that road transport will take longer than the original train services, so please allow more time to make your journey. Customers should speak with station staff or use the station help points for assistance with road transport.

You can find the location of your bus replacement by checking station signs or by searching for your station on our station information pages

    Additional information:

Network Rail's detailed geotechnical and aerial surveys of the affected area have now been completed, allowing engineers to fully understand the extent of the repairs needed to reopen the railway.

The floodwater washed the track-bed out from beneath the line and engineers will have to replace thousands of tonnes of lost material to rebuild the supporting slope before they can repair the track itself.

You can view images of the damaged railway infrastructure here.
