    Amended services in the Motherwell and Glasgow Central areas on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April

    Train companies affected

    CrossCountry, London North Eastern Railway, ScotRail, TransPennine Express, Virgin Trains

    Routes affected

    All routes through Motherwell

    Description

    Engineering work is taking place between Motherwell and Glasgow closing most lines.

    Caledonian Sleeper:

    Are not affected by this engineering work.

    CrossCountry:

    On Sunday, buses will replace trains between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.

    London North Eastern Railway:

    On Sunday, the 16:30 London Kings Cross to Glasgow Central will terminate at Edinburgh. A replacement bus service will operate between Edinburgh and Motherwell, where customers are advised to use ScotRail services to Glasgow Queen Street.

    ScotRail:

    High Level Trains:

    • Glasgow Central - Lanark: An hourly service will operate, diverted via Cathcart Circle not calling at Cambuslang. An hourly bus service will also operate, calling at all booked stops.
    • Glasgow Central - Newton: These services will be extended to Larkhall and Motherwell.
    • Glasgow Central - Edinburgh (via Shotts): Trains will only run between Carfin and Edinburgh, buses will run between Glasgow Central and Carfin.

    Low Level Trains:

    • Glasgow Central Low Level services will operate to a revised timetable.
    • Balloch - Larkhall / Motherwell (via Whifflet) will start / terminate at Rutherglen.
    • Milngavie - Motherwell will start / terminate at Rutherglen.
    • Buses will operate between Bridgeton and Motherwell.

    TransPennine Express

    From 11:30 on Saturday until 14:30 on Sunday, buses will replace trains between Carlisle and Edinburgh via Lockerbie. Buses will not call at Haymarket, customers to / from this station should travel via Edinburgh.

    On Sunday:

    • The 15:14 Glasgow Central to Manchester Airport service will not run.
    • The 17:15 Glasgow Central to Manchester Airport service will run earlier at 17:08.
    • The 19:14 Glasgow Central to Manchester Airport service will run earlier at 19:06.

    Virgin Trains:

    From 11:30 on Saturday until 11:30 Sunday, buses will replace trains between Carlisle and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh.

    Trains which go via Birmingham New Street will terminate / start and Preston. Customers should use alternative trains between Preston and Carlisle.

    After 11:30 on Sunday, trains will be diverted between Motherwell and Glasgow Central via, but not calling at, Mount Florida. Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes.

    Great Western Railway between London Paddington and Swansea / Carmarthen, between Cardiff Central and Taunton / Portsmouth Harbour / Brighton, Bristol Parkway and Weston-super-Mare and between London Paddington and Bedwyn

    Description

    Engineering work is taking place between Patchway and Severn Tunnel Junction closing all lines.

    CrossCountry 

    Trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Cardiff Central are diverted to terminate / start at Bristol Temple Meads.

    Valid ticket holders should use Great Western Railway replacement buses between Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central.

    Customers please note that trains between Nottingham and Cardiff Central are not affected by this engineering work.

    Great Western Railway

    Trains between London Paddington and Swansea / Carmarthen are diverted between Swindon and Newport via but not calling at Gloucester and will be retimed.

    Trains between Cardiff Central and Southampton Central / Portsmouth Harbour / Brighton will be amended to start from / terminate at Bristol Parkway. Services that usually run to / from Brighton will be amended to start from / terminate at Portsmouth Harbour.

    Buses will run Bristol Parkway and Newport.

    A few trains throughout the day will run between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads.

    As a result of above train re-timings, trains between London Paddington and Bedwyn will also be slightly retimed.

    Routes affected

    CrossCountry between Newcastle / York / Leeds / Manchester Piccadilly / Nottingham / Birmingham New Street / Reading and Southampton Central / Bournemouth

    South Western Railway between London Waterloo / Woking / Basingstoke and Southampton Central / Portsmouth Harbour / Poole / Weymouth

    Description

    Engineering work is taking place between Basingstoke / Eastleigh and St Denys, closing all lines.

    CrossCountry:

    Trains will be diverted between Basingstoke and Southampton Central, not calling at Winchester or Southampton Airport Parkway. Customers for these stations should use South Western Railway services.

    Journey times will be extended by around 45 minutes.

    South Western Railway:

    Saturday:

    Buses replace trains between:

    • Eastleigh and Southampton Central
    • Romsey and Southampton Central (via Chandler's Ford).

    Sunday:

    Buses replace trains between:

    • Basingstoke and Southampton Central
    • Basingstoke and Fareham.
    • Romsey and Southampton Central (via Chandler's Ford).
