Our trains

CrossCountry operates 3 types of train - here you can find out about each type to help you plan your journey.

Voyager

Our Voyager trains operate the majority of our long-distance services, with some services between the South West and the North East and Scotland operated by our High Speed Trains.

Voyager

  • Formed of four or five coaches - sometimes coupled together to give longer trains
  • Operate on the South West - North East and Scotland, South Coast - North West, South Coast - North East, and South West - North West routes
  • First Class accommodation in Coach A (look for the yellow stripe above the windows on the outside of the train to identify First Class)
  • Quiet Coach in Coach F
  • Bike and large luggage storage in Coach D
  • Wheelchair space in Coach A (First Class) and Coach F (Standard)
  • Toilets (all accessible) in Coaches A, B (on five-coach trains only), C and F
  • We've now completed the fitting of WiFi to our Voyager trains
  • View a full seating plan for Voyager trains

High Speed Train

HST 

  • Formed of up to eight coaches
  • Operate selected services on the South West - North East and Scotland routes
  • First Class accommodation in Coach A and B (look for the yellow stripe above the windows on the outside of the train to identify First Class)
  • Quiet Coach in Coach H
  • Bike and large luggage storage in Coach H (not accessible from seating areas)
  • Wheelchair space in Coach H (Standard) and Coach A (First Class)
  • Toilets in Coaches B, C, D, E, F and H
  • Accessible toilets in Coaches A and G
  • We've now completed the fitting of WiFi to our High Speed Trains
  • View a full seating plan for High Speed Trains

Turbostar

Services between Cardiff and Nottingham, Birmingham and Stansted Airport, and Birmingham and Leicester are operated by our Turbostar trains.

Turbostar

  • Formed of two or three coaches - sometimes coupled together to give longer trains
  • First Class accommodation in Coach A (look for the yellow stripe above the windows on the outside of the train to identify First Class)
  • Bike storage in Coach C
  • Wheelchair space in Coach C
  • Toilet in Coach A
  • Accessible toilet in Coach C
  • View a full seating plan for Turbostar trains

At many stations, information screens will provide details of which coach is leading, so you know where to wait if you have a reservation. Please note that some of our services, as part of their normal route and schedule, change direction during the journey, particularly at Birmingham New Street, Reading and Derby stations.

We publish separate information on taking your bike on the train, luggage allowances, on-board catering and for those who require mobility assistance during their journey.
