Cross-border train operator CrossCountry has confirmed that its services using Glasgow Central station will remain suspended until further notice, following the partial reopening of the high level platforms today, Wednesday 18 March.

The station has been closed since Sunday 8 March following a significant fire on Union Street. Whilst some regional and cross-border services have resumed today, the exclusion zone which remains in force means only part of the high level station can reopen.

With only limited platforms available for trains to use, CrossCountry services to Scotland will continue to start and terminate at Edinburgh until further notice, with no CrossCountry services permitted to run to or from Glasgow Central.

Tickets for CrossCountry services to or from Glasgow Central can be used on ScotRail services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street, or between Argyle Street and Motherwell, in both directions at no extra cost.

Once arriving at Edinburgh, passengers may then travel on the next available CrossCountry service southbound. Existing seat reservations will not be transferred to other trains; customers without reservations can find unreserved seats in coaches B, H and L.

Shiona Rolfe, CrossCountry’s Managing Director, said: “I’m sorry to CrossCountry passengers affected by continued disruption at Glasgow Central following the serious fire on Union Street. We’re ready to restart our services to and from Glasgow as soon as capacity is available - but we must work together as an industry to reopen the station safely.

“Colleagues across the industry are working hard to keep people moving smoothly, and I’d ask all those travelling from Glasgow to double-check their journey options and leave extra time to change trains at Edinburgh.”

Those planning to travel to or from Glasgow using CrossCountry services can check their journeys on the CrossCountry website or National Rail Enquiries.
