Space for bikes on trains is limited so, to make your journey easier, we strongly recommend reserving a space for your bike in advance. It’s free! If all bike spaces are already booked, we may not be able to accommodate additional bikes on-board. Please see the below for information on how to reserve your space.
Whether you’re a commuter, coffee rider, road racer, or mountain biker; having the freedom to travel with your bike lets you go further, faster, and more conveniently. Here, you’ll find essential guidance on how to make a bike reservation with CrossCountry, where to find a space on the train, and our e-bikes policy.
Before travelling, please check our Service Updates page to see if any track improvement work is taking place which could affect your journey. Bicycles cannot be accommodated on any rail replacement road transport services.
How to Book a Bike Reservation
The best way to ensure you can travel with your bike is to book a space before you travel. To do this with CrossCountry, simply find the right journey for you on our website or the CrossCountry app and click through to the Delivery & Extras page. At the bottom of this page, you’ll be prompted to make your bike reservation. Please note that bike reservations must be collected from ticket vending machines and are not available as e-tickets.
Alternatively, you can reserve a bike space at a station before you travel, or by contacting us via X (@crosscountryuk) or Facebook Messenger (facebook.com/CrossCountrytrains) for services operated by CrossCountry. Please note that we’re unable to reserve cycle spaces on services run by other train operators.
If you’d prefer to speak to us, you can call 03447 369 123* (Option 4) to reserve a bike space or for further information.
*(Calls to this number are charged at 7p per minute, phone networks may charge an additional fee).
Where Do I Store My Bike?
Please check your bike’s designated storage location when making your reservation. For safety reasons, each train has a maximum number of bikes it can carry. If this limit is reached, you may be asked to leave the train and wait for the next available service.
| Train Type | Bike Storage Location | Number of Bike Spaces |
| Voyager | Coach D | 2 Spaces |
| Voyager + On-Board Shop | Coach F | 2 Spaces |
| Turbostar | Coach C | 1 Spaces |
Bikes must be carried in the designated area of the train and must be suspended from the front wheel into the top hook with the rear wheel positioned into the lower-level guide. We can't carry bikes in aisles or vestibule areas as they can cause an obstruction. We reserve the right to refuse any bike that can’t be safely stored.
Please note: If you are seated on a fold-down seat in the bike space, you may be required to vacate it to accommodate a customer boarding with a bicycle.
Taking an E-Bike on a CrossCountry Train
You can bring a road-legal electric bike on our trains. These are pedal-assist bikes with a motor of up to 250 watts that cuts out once you reach 15.5 mph.
Keeping everyone safe on board
To make sure your journey is safe for you and other passengers, please remember:
- Charging e-bikes on the train is not permitted.
- The battery must stay fitted to the bike, unless it’s designed to be removed for folding.
- E-bikes with damaged batteries are not permitted on board.
- Spare e-bike batteries cannot be carried.
- Modified or adapted e-bikes aren’t permitted on board.
- Use the designated cycle storage areas and make sure your bike doesn’t block doors, exits, or aisles.
- Don’t lock your e-bike to any part of the train, as it may need to be removed quickly in an emergency.
- If there’s an e-bike battery fire, move away from the area and follow the onboard instructions to alert the driver or train crew. Check nearby posters or signage for guidance.
Using E-Bikes at Stations
For safety reasons, e-scooters are not permitted on CrossCountry trains. These pose a significant fire risk, and our on-board staff have the right to refuse you boarding our train. E-scooters are banned across the National Rail network and the London Underground.
For official government advice on buying and using e-bikes safely, you can visit the GOV.UK guidance on avoiding e-bike and e-scooter fires.

Restrictions

For safety reasons we do not permit e-scooters on-board our trains. These pose a significant fire risk, and our on-board staff have the right to refuse you boarding our train.
We reserve the right to stop passengers from boarding when;
- There is insufficient space to allow for bikes where a bike reservation has not been made.
- Transporting bikes with oversized frames and tires.
Space is limited and we are therefore unable to convey the following on any of our trains; tandems, tricycles, bike trailers, motorbikes, scooters, e-scooters, mopeds and motorised bikes.
Electrically assisted pedal cycles (EPAC, ebike or Pedelec) where power doesn’t exceed 250 watts, a license isn’t required, and the bike is the same size as a non-electric bike, may be carried subject to available space.
Our policy states that we are unable to convey e-scooters on-board and we do not permit charging of any bikes on our trains.
