What are S-Tickets?
An s-Ticket is a Season ticket stored as a single-use barcode coupon, valid to be redeemed within a 3-hour window and conveniently stored on your phone. With the CrossCountry app, your s-Ticket can be ready for immediate use upon purchase or renewal.

There are lots of reasons to start using s-Tickets over photocard Season Tickets:
- s-Tickets are securely stored in the CrossCountry app, providing greater peace of mind. If your device is lost or stolen, you can still access your s-Ticket by logging into the app from any other device.
- s-Tickets are available to use immediately after purchase, perfect if you’ve reached the train station and realised you’ve forgotten to renew.
- You can bypass any postal delays that would potentially come with purchasing a traditional photocard Season Ticket.
- A variety of Season Ticket types are available in s-Ticket form, including First Class travel, giving you flexibility.
- 16-17 Saver and Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount card holders can claim 50% off the purchase of s-Tickets.
How to Book CrossCountry s-Tickets
Buying an s-Ticket is just as simple as any train ticket booking, just head to the CrossCountry app. Next, fill in your journey details, select ‘Flexi & Seasons’ and search live times and prices. It’s worth noting that s-Tickets are only available for new or renewed weekly or monthly Season tickets. They are not available for Flexi Season Tickets or Annual Season Tickets.
Now you’ve chosen a ticket that works for you, select ‘Mobile barcode in-app’ and upload your photo.
Your photo must satisfy the following guidelines:
- The photo should be passport-style - just your head and shoulders
- The photo should be instantly recognisable as you
- Ensure the photo is neither too close nor too far away
- Remove anything covering your face
- Avoid using any image filters
Once you’ve got your best shot, you’re ready to download!
How to Use s-Tickets
s-Tickets are available for use across the entire CrossCountry network, meaning all you need to do once you’ve chosen your regular route is find the UK train times that work for you. To use your season ticket, just tap ‘View Season Ticket’ in the app and show the barcode to the staff or at the ticket barrier.
Your ticket will refresh automatically every 3 hours. If you need a new barcode sooner, you can refresh it manually in the app when connected to the internet. If you don’t have a connection, don’t worry! A single-use back-up coupon will be available.
Remember, s-Tickets are only valid when displayed in the app. Screenshots, wallet apps, or printed copies won't be accepted.
