Things to do at ThinkTank Birmingham

Widely regarded as one of the best things to do in Birmingham, ThinkTank has a wide variety of activities to get involved in.

The 4K Planetarium is a highlight, offering visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the wonders of the cosmos. The museum can also stake a claim to having the only 4K Planetarium of its kind in the West Midlands, meaning people from all over the area come to witness and enjoy this special piece of educational entertainment.

The interactive ThinkTank Science Garden is one of the top attractions with free entry in the city. Kids can learn about renewable energy, engineering, and mechanics through play – don’t miss out on the giant hamster wheel! The garden is a great opportunity for kids to learn about the world around them in a hands-on way.

It’s not just the universe that you can have a close look at though, there are also shows that send you to the depths of the ocean and through the human body. If you’re visiting with children under eight years old, then visiting MiniBrum is an absolute must. This exciting child-sized world provides an opportunity to explore recognisable Birmingham landmarks in miniature, such as the canals and the Old Joe Clock Tower.

Beyond this, kids can discover various different play zones where they can live out any dream jobs they might have. They can build their own homes, work in a salon or post office, and even drive around a racetrack! MiniBrum is also available to hire out for birthday parties, which can make their big day even more special.

About ThinkTank Birmingham

Opening in 2001, ThinkTank Birmingham was created as part of Birmingham Museums Trust to provide the area with an exciting new location to learn more about a variety of topics, such as science and engineering. With state-of-the-art educational facilities, the space also has an enviable collection of aviation and engineering equipment that helps visitors better understand the historical feats of industry Birmingham is so well known for.

There are over two hundred high-tech and hands-on displays available for visitors to appreciate and tactilely learn about engineering and science. ThinkTank also takes pride of place in the heart of Millenium Point in Birmingham, the innovative centre of the city, where there is also the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment for Birmingham City University, further highlighting the areas focus on education and innovation.

ThinkTank Birmingham is also well known for a variety of exhibitions and celebratory ‘days’ it has on throughout the year, celebrating the culture and heritage of Birmingham with their events, such as their ‘Made in Birmingham’ tours.
