Successful projects
We are pleased to announce the seven projects receiving support through CrossCountry's Customer & Communities Improvement Fund for 2026/27.
The fund supports initiatives that create meaningful and lasting benefits for customers and communities across the CrossCountry network. This year's successful projects will improve accessibility, build confidence and skills, strengthen communities and support more sustainable journeys.
Young Green Briton Challenge, Newcastle
Delivered by Social Innovation for All CIC, this free schools programme will help young people in Newcastle learn about sustainability and develop their own local climate action projects. Pupils will build skills including creativity, teamwork and problem-solving through workshops, mentoring and a regional showcase.
Dart Valley Cycle Trail
The Dart Valley Cycle Trail will create a safe, multi-user active travel route through woodland and meadow alongside the River Dart. The trail will connect Totnes railway station with Staverton and surrounding rural communities, making it easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle for everyday and leisure journeys.
Totnes to Newton Abbot shared-use route
Led by Littlehempston Parish Council, this project will help complete a missing section of National Cycle Network Route 2. CrossCountry's funding will support fencing and hedgerow planting alongside a new shared-use path, helping communities north of Totnes access the town and railway station more safely by walking, wheeling or cycling.
Sense GOT Group Cornwall summer activity programme
Sense GOT Group Cornwall will deliver a summer programme of accessible activities for children and young people with complex disabilities. Activities including surfing, nature walks and beach visits will offer opportunities to try new experiences, build friendships and enjoy Cornwall's natural environment.
Travel with Confidence
Delivered by Voluntary Action South Leicestershire, Travel with Confidence will help older people and vulnerable adults overcome barriers to independent travel. Trained volunteers will provide personalised support with journey planning, rail ticketing, digital travel tools, Passenger Assistance and accompanied journeys.
Lift for Life at Newcastle Deaf Centre
Newcastle Deaf Centre, part of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, will replace and modernise its ageing lift. The improvement will protect step-free access to the centre and help more Deaf, Hard of Hearing, SEND and mobility-impaired community members reach its advice, employment, welfare, health and digital inclusion services.
Lifecoaching with Lifeworks North Staffs
Lifeworks North Staffs will provide one-to-one lifecoaching for people with autism, ADHD, Tourette's, dyspraxia and related conditions. The sessions will help participants understand their individual needs, develop practical strategies and build greater confidence and independence in their everyday lives.
Future funding
Applications for the 2026/27 funding cycle have now closed.
Subject to funding being available, we expect the Customer & Communities Improvement Fund to reopen for applications in May 2027. Further information will be published on this page nearer the time.
