Comedy is one of those all-year-round activities that delights everyone. Whatever mood you’re in when you take your seat, chances are you’ll be laughing before the first act is over. Across Newcastle, there are family-friendly laughs to be had, as well as shows more suitable for adults. Join CrossCountry as we explore the best comedy clubs in Newcastle

The Stand is a basement bar with daily gigs, making it reliably one of the best places to find comedy shows in Newcastle. Located along the quaint and cobbled High Bridge, The Stand looks unassuming, but once inside, you’re in for a barrel of laughs. Their most famous regular show takes place every Wednesday and spotlights beginner acts. It’s the place to be in Newcastle to discover the comedy talent of tomorrow. Be sure to try their delicious menu brought to The Stand by Bryan Does Food, we’re talking finger food, perfect for chowing down as you watch.

You can visit The Stand by train with CrossCountry, just head to Newcastle station, and it’s less than ten minutes' walking distance.

Cal’s Comedy Club

Cal’s Comedy Club has made a home for itself at The Chillingham in Heaton. You’ll find them delighting audiences on the first Thursday of every month. Cal is the club’s resident emcee, an accomplished comedian who you may have already seen on TV. He’s performed at a range of comedy clubs, all the way up to the London Palladium.

Pay a visit to Cal’s Comedy Club for a hilarious variety show in a cosy venue with a fantastic range of beers, wines, and cocktails. To get to The Chillingham from Newcastle station, catch the Green line to Monument METRO and then the Yellow line to Chillingham Road.

The scale is impressive, the production values are high, and the atmosphere is electric.

The Utilita Arena is a twelve-minute walk from Newcastle station, perfect if you’re hoping to catch a train straight home after the show.

Tyne Theatre & Opera House

For a night of comedy that feels elevated, book a comedy show at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House. This beautifully restored Victorian venue regularly hosts stand-up tours, comedy festivals, and one-off performances from established comedians. The ornate interior and intimate sightlines make it a memorable setting for live comedy. If you enjoy comedy in a classic theatre setting, this venue should be firmly on your list.

The Tyne Theatre & Opera House is a five-minute walk from Newcastle station.

The Suggestibles

The Suggestibles are a quick-fire comedy troupe that sells out non-scripted shows. They rely on audience participation, meaning no two performances are ever the same, which is exactly the appeal. Expect quick thinking, ridiculous scenarios, and plenty of audience interaction, all performed by experienced improvisers. If you’re after something a little different from traditional stand-up, The Suggestibles offer a brilliant night out.
