We were delighted to support the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (EVR) ‘Class 14’s @ 60’ celebration event which was held at the Wirksworth based heritage railway from 25-28 July. Earlier in the year, following an approach to us by EVR’s Commercial Manager, Leigh Gration, we were pleased to be able to arrange some corporate sponsorship to support the event as part of our commitment to help promote Heritage Railways in the communities CrossCountry directly serves or links with.
The special four-day event to celebrate 60 years of the quirky Class 14 diesel hydraulic locomotives – affectionately known as ‘Teddy Bears’ – saw see the largest gathering of the locomotives for many years and was extremely popular with rail enthusiasts from across the country. CrossCountry’s sponsorship helped pay the transportation costs of one of the visiting locomotives from another heritage railway.
David Jones, Stakeholder Manager, East Midlands & East Anglia, said “As well as helping one of the ‘Teddy Bears’ to attend 14’s @ 60, our full page CrossCountry advertisement on the inside front cover of the event brochure encouraged people who bought their tickets in advance to leave the car at home and travel with CrossCountry via Derby, connecting with EMR’s hourly Matlock service to Duffield station, which is directly linked to EVR’s southern terminus for onward services to Wirksworth”.
