Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company have worked with Settle Primary School to introduce a STEM room in the primary school grounds. Opened on Wednesday 22nd June, the STEM room will promote science, technology, engineering and math education, as well as being accessible to local schools across the Settle-Carlisle line.
To develop the project further, a dedicated STEM classroom has been built within the school grounds. As well as being a STEM hub for the school, the studio will also be available for the community, and other schools along the Settle-Carlisle railway.
“We aim to work with schools along the Settle-Carlisle Railway Line to encourage STEM education to as many schools as possible” said Katie Chesworth, Projects & Social Media Manager of the Settle-Carlisle Railway. “We know how important STEM education is, and look forward to working with schools, and show the wide range of employment opportunities available within the rail industry”
The STEM Studio plans to be open to the community helping provide a new and unique space for groups to meet.
Settle-Carlisle Railway has been at the forefront of this project, sourcing funding from CrossCountry Trains, Northern Trains, Avanti West Coast, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Community Rail Network, Settle Rotary, and Settle Middle School Legacy Fund.
