On 11 June CrossCountry’s Environment & Sustainability team attended a fabulous celebratory event at the wonderfully restored 1840s Wingfield station in rural Derbyshire. Our Community Investment Fund Project Manager, Candice Dos Santos Hodgson, was invited to officially open the new accessible Woodland Walk through an area of rich biodiversity, which includes a viewing area of the station buildings and passing trains at speed. The Woodland Walk has been created by local volunteers with all materials and new fencing funded by a grant from our CrossCountry Community Investment Fund.
As well as cutting a ribbon Candice was delighted to unveil a pair of local artisan created walking route maps, complete with hand-painted CrossCountry logos!
Managed by the Wingfield Station 1947 charity, the 185 year old station can be found in Holme Lane, DE55 7NY and is usually open Wednesdays to Sundays welcoming visitors from 1000-1600. Further information can be found at the Wingfield Station 1947 Facebook site or by calling 07592 658778.
