Penistone Line Partnership partnered with CrossCountry and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to host a guided walk and share giveaways to encourage young people to ‘Try the Train’ at Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield.
Starting at Meadowhall Interchange, a group of volunteers led a circular guided walk from Meadowhall Interchange through Woolley Wood, Concord Park and back to Meadowhall on the Trans Pennine Trail. As well as handing out free walking guides, the partnership promoted the free guided wellness and inclusion walks that take place every other Saturday from railway stations on the Penistone Line.
As well as the walks, the event included discussions with young people about the UK’s first rail Sustainable Travel Educational Toolkit, the safety project ‘BackTrack’, the availability of ‘Try the Train’ trips and opportunities to volunteer within the partnership.
