Bishop Line Community Rail Partnership have been getting creative with their latest project - Storylines. Led by Sam Slatcher and part funded by CrossCountry, the partnership commissioned local artists to engage with communities along the Bishop Line and the wider Stockton & Darlington Railway to respond creatively to what the railway means to them 200 years after its establishment.
Throughout summer 2023, artists Lizzie Lovejoy, Carmen Thomson, Harry Gallagher, Rowan McCabe, Becci Sharrock and Sam Slatcher travelled between Bishop Auckland and Saltburn, gathering stories from passengers. Some of these were created into poems now featured on Bishop Line stations, while others were turned into short films produced by Lonely Tower Film & Media. The films can be viewed via a link on the Bishop Line website.
The songs, poems and films were launched at the Storylines Live event in Darlington last September to mark the two-year count down to the bicentenary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway which will be celebrated in 2025.
