Artwork was unveiled at Delamere and Mouldsworth stations on the Mid Cheshire line between Manchester and Chester at the start of July.
Pupils from the Delamere CofE Academy Primary School, and Ashton Hayes Primary School, attended and cut the ribbon to launch the artwork in the heart of their community.
Funded by CrossCountry, Northern Trains and Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership (CRP) the drawings created by the children will now be on display on the platforms for all to see. The colourful panels feature scenes and landmarks from the local areas and were inspired by travelling by train.
At Delamere, lead station volunteer Dave Sutton came up with the idea for the platform art and contacted the school who were keen to get involved. Clair Hogg, who volunteers at Mouldsworth alongside her son, Eric, came up with the idea to brighten the station up. She invited Eric’s school to help create the art. Sarah Muir, Officer of the Mid Cheshire CRP helped coordinate the projects and worked with Johnsons of Nantwich who printed the children’s artwork on the aluminium panels.
David Sutton, lead volunteer at Delamere said, “I think the artwork is sensational and shows off our community, its school, station and forest,”
Eric Hogg said “As a Mouldsworth station volunteer and pupil at Ashton Hayes Primary School I was very proud to unveil the artwork created by my school. We all enjoyed drawing trains and the countryside. We hope everyone enjoys the artwork for many years to come.”
