On 11 October CrossCountry joined colleagues from EMR, Greater Anglia and Hereward Community Rail Partnership for another popular Meet the Managers event – this time at Whittlesey Town Hall in Cambridgeshire. CrossCountry serves the nearby station of Whittlesea - the station name is spelt differently for historical reasons - at peak times only, but our trains are extremely important to the local community as they provide the only direct links with Cambridge.
As expected, there were lots of suggestions for more CrossCountry services to call at the station in the absence of much-needed rail infrastructure improvements at Ely North Junction which would allow Greater Anglia to operate an hourly service between Ipswich and Peterborough, calling at Whittlesea, instead of the present two-hourly service.
David Jones, Stakeholder Manager, East Midlands & East Anglia, CrossCountry said: “Whilst the current infrastructure constraints mean there is little scope for any train operator to make adjustments to the existing timetable, we will explore what can be done to make small improvements to the Whittlesea service in future timetables as we know Cambridge is the place many people in the town want to travel to.”
