Rail 74 Community Rail Partnership (CRP), with support and funding from train operator CrossCountry, has successfully completed its "Sounds Like a Volunteer" project to promote sustainable travel, volunteering and environmental awareness

The initiative has been designed to enhance community engagement across South Lanarkshire, promote sustainable rail travel, and attract new volunteers to support green projects and station adoption programs. By addressing the challenges faced by third-sector groups in recruiting volunteers, the project has increased awareness of local environmental efforts and built stronger community connections along the Rail 74 corridor.

The "Sounds Like a Volunteer" project tackled one of the key challenges for community rail, station adopters and eco-community garden groups: attracting new volunteers. Many of these spaces along the Rail 74 line had been left unmanned, limiting engagement. To address this, Rail 74 CRP created an audio podcast featuring the voices of current volunteers from four local community groups. This podcast highlighted their activities, encouraged others to get involved and underscored the benefits of volunteering.
