Benefits of the Senior Railcard

See more of the UK with a Senior Railcard, designed to make train travel more financially accessible to over-60s. If you regularly travel with a partner, or with family members, you may benefit more from a Two Together Railcard or Family & Friends Railcard, but if you're a solo elderly traveller then be sure to make savings with a Senior Railcard!

How to Buy a Senior Railcard

It's really easy to apply for your Senior Railcard, and anybody aged 60 or over is eligible.

The quickest way to purchase your Senior Railcard is online. You can complete the application in minutes, and all you need is a payment card, a digital passport-style photgraph, and a valid ID to verify your age.

You may prefer to buy your Senior Railcard in-person at a staffed ticket office or National Rail-licensed Travel Agent. To apply in person, you will need to bring a completed application form, a payment card, and valid ID to verify your age.

There are two types of Railcard - Digital and plastic. Digital Railcards are easy to use on the Railcard app, whereas a plastic card arrives in the post once your application is approved.

How to Use Your Senior Railcard

Once you've got your Senior Railcard, the adventures can begin! Make sure to apply your Railcard when buying train tickets to make the most of the savings.

If you're buying train tickets online, on the CrossCountry app, or at a ticket machine, select your Railcard to apply the discount. If you are buying tickets at a ticket booth, let your attendant know that you have a Senior Railcard so they can apply your discount.

When you are travelling, make sure to bring your plastic Railcard with you, or that your phone is adequately charged, so you can show your Railcard to an attendant when asked.
