What is a Senior Railcard?

If you’re over 60 years old, you could benefit from great savings on train tickets with a Senior Railcard. With an over 60 Railcard, you can get 1/3 off rail fares to travel across the UK. So, if you want to visit your friend, take trips with the grandkids, or go for a weekend by the seaside, this is the card for you. Discover some of our favourite destinations and plan your next trip.

Who is it for?

How much does a Senior Railcard cost?

  • £30 for one year
  • £70 for three yearsAn older couple look at a train timetable on a train platform.

How can I get the Senior Railcard?

If you buy the Senior Railcard online, the only things you need are:

    • A valid passport number or UK driving licence
    • A debit or credit card

You can also buy a Senior Railcard at any staffed station ticket office or National Rail-licensed Travel Agent. The main advantage of this is that you can do it on the day you are travelling. To save time, it’s a good idea to fill in the application form before you get there.
If you're applying at a station for the first time you'll need to complete an application form and you’ll need to bring one of the following:

      • Your birth certificate
      • Passport (all nationalities accepted)
      • UK driving licence

Once you've bought your Railcard at a station, you can then register it online. This will make it easier for you to renew or buy other cards online.

What happens next?

If you buy a digital Railcard, you'll be sent a code and once you download the Railcard app and upload the card onto your phone, you can start using it straight away.

If not they aim to dispatch your Railcard within one working day of you ordering it, but, it’s probably best to allow up to five working days for your Railcard to arrive. It’ll be sent out free of charge by First Class post, but if you prefer, you have the option to pay for Special Delivery.
You’ll need to have your Railcard with you to be able to get a discount on your rail ticket, so be sure to leave enough time before your journey for the Railcard to reach you.

Travelling today? You’re better off buying a digital Railcard or over the counter at a staffed National Rail station.
