Christmas can be a busy time for all of us. Please check out the information below to ensure you travel with ease on our trains over the festive period.

Secure your seat in advance 

Some of our trains are expected to be busy during the Christmas period. To ensure you have a reserved seat and are able to relax on your journey, book your tickets in advance via our website or Train Tickets app. We could even save you up to 70%* with CrossCountry Advance tickets.

Late confirmation of timetables means train times and tickets may not be available until closer to the date of departure for services over Christmas and New Year. You can find out all the details on our changes to train times page

Chepstow

Thursday 27 December 2018 to Tuesday 1 January 2019

Rail replacement road transport will operate between Chepstow and Newport.

Guildford

Thursday 27 December 2018 to Sunday 30 December 2018

Rail services will operate between Reading and North Camp and change for road transport between North Camp and Guildford.

Edinburgh

Monday 1 January 2019

There will be no train services north or west of Edinburgh.

Stansted Airport

Tuesday 1 January 2019 until 0730

Early morning trains between Cambridge and Stansted Airport will not run.

Stafford

Tuesday 1 January 2019 until 1200

 

Trains will divert not to call at Stafford. Journey times will be extended by approximately 20 minutes. Rail replacement road transport will operate between Wolverhampton and Stafford.

When do we expect CrossCountry services to be quieter?

We have created a table to quickly summarise how busy we expect our services to be over the Christmas period, shown by time of day in a simple 'traffic light' format. If you can be flexible with your travel arrangements,  please use this information to select quieter services. If you are more restricted in your travel plans, please ensure you book in advance to reserve your seat.

Only bring luggage you can comfortably carry 

We have a limited amount of space on our trains to store luggage, so please be considerate of other passengers and only bring what you can comfortably carry. Soft bags and small cases are easier to stow. 

On our trains we have storage available:

  • Under the seat in front of you 
  • Above every seat in the overhead racks 
  • At the end of each coach for large luggage items

I may need assistance with my journey, what do I need to do? 

If you need extra assistance to help you with your journey, we offer our JourneyCare service. 

You can pre-book this service online when you buy your tickets on our website or you can call us on  0344 811 0125 (text phone users can call 0344 811 0126). So that we can arrange everything for you, please give us at least 24 hours notice before you travel (48 hours if booking online though CrossCountry trains).

Over the festive period we expect to see a significant increase in requests for passenger assistance. Please book your assistance in advance to ensure you get the help you need.
