Sheffield may still be known as the ‘Steel City’, but today, it’s far more than just an industrial centre. Decades of renovation have transformed it into a city of culture and diversity, and nothing’s seen a bigger boost than its culinary scene. Not only is Sheffield now home to some of the UK’s best-rated and most popular food spots, but it’s also become a hub for great vegan and vegetarian restaurants.

If you’re paying the ‘Steel City’ a visit, these are the best vegan restaurants you can find in Sheffield.

Best vegan restaurant in Sheffield – Church – Temple of Fun

Arcade bar, music venue, vegan restaurant, all in one place... Church might just be the coolest place in Sheffield. The Kelham Island establishment is home to PlayStation gaming pods, retro arcade machines, and a pool machine that all visitors are welcome to play. A 220-capacity live music venue has hosted the likes of Deaf Havana and Annie Mac – no surprise given that the owner, Oliver Sykes, is the lead singer of the band Bring Me the Horizon. If that’s not a big enough reason to visit, the 100% vegan bar and street food kitchen will be; Church – Temple of Fun boasts vegan burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries, and a wide range of sides alongside delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.

What to try: The Syko burger might look strange with its charcoal-black bun, but it packs a flavour punch with its smoky bourbon sauce.

How to get there: You can take a number of ten-minute buses from Sheffield train station.

Best vegan Sunday lunch in Sheffield – Brocco on the Park

While there an undoubtedly more vegan options today than there were ten years ago, one thing that’s been slow to catch up is the traditional Sunday lunch. Luckily for those living in or visiting Sheffield, there’s a fantastic pub serving up one of the best vegan roasts in the area. Brocco on the Park sits on the corner of the stunning Endcliffe Café – the perfect place to end a long Sunday walk. You have a variety of options to choose from, including separate vegetarian and vegan Sunday lunches, and even a vegan afternoon tea for those who are feeling lavish.

What to try: Exactly what you came here for…the vegan roast!

How to get there: You can take a number of ten-minute buses from Sheffield train station.

Best vegan breakfast in Sheffield – Dana Café

Not only does Dana Café serve up one of the best vegan breakfasts in Sheffield, but one of the best breakfasts in general. Vegans and vegetarians regularly flock to the café to fuel up on the full veggie (or vegan) breakfast or a tempeh bacon sandwich. Local and international coffees and teas are on offer, while the café itself provides a calm environment to stock up on food before you start your day. If that’s not enough, you could always take away a slice of Dana Café’s famous vegan chocolate cake for a mid-morning dessert.

What to try: The full veggie breakfast packs a sausage patty, hash browns, beans, mushrooms, tofu scrambled eggs, and toast all onto one mouth-watering plate.

How to get there: You can take a number of 20-minute buses from Sheffield train station.

Best vegan fast-food restaurant in Sheffield – Make No Bones

If there’s one thing veganism makes more difficult, it’s finding a suitable quick bite. High streets are overflowing with burger joints and chicken shops, but rarely do you find a dedicated vegan fast-food restaurant. Luckily for Sheffield residents, Make No Bones is there to satiate their craving for ‘dirty’ food. Previously a vegan catering company, Make No Bones has been serving up 100% vegan fast-food since 2013, including ‘burgers’, fried ‘chicken’, ‘döner kebabs’, and loaded fries. While some meat-free ‘meat’ can taste somewhat suspicious, you won’t notice the difference between a MNB burger and the real thing. Whether you’re making your way home from a night out or just fancy something quick and indulgent, Make No Bones is the obvious choice.

What to try: The Big Make: 2 meat-free burger patties in a double-cut sesame bun with cheese, lettuce, diced white onion, pickles, burger sauce, and special burger sauce. Sound familiar?

How to get there: You can take a number of ten-minute buses from Sheffield train station.

There’s so much to see and do in Sheffield. If you find yourself spending a weekend in the ‘Steel City’ to feast on all the vegan food you can eat, don’t forget CrossCountry runs services from all over the country.
