About the station

Wilmslow is a small market town and parish in Cheshire. Wilmslow Station was first opened in May 1842, providing routes into Stockport and Manchester. Modernisation of the railway saw electric tracks installed in 1959 and a project to improve the signalling on the line was completed in 2006. The station is also intended to be part of the High Speed 2 line between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly.

Facilities at Wilmslow Railway Station include 120 spaces in the car park and 30 bicycle spaces which are opposite the main building. The station has CCTV coverage for security and toilets are available along with ample seating areas and refreshments.

Accessible facilities at Wilmslow Railway Station include four accessible car parking spaces. Customer help points are available, and an induction loop has been installed. The ticket machines and the ticket counter are both accessible and a ramp is available for train access at the station. For more information about how CrossCountry can help please see our priority seating and travel assistance options for your journey.

Wilmslow Station is served by several bus and tram lines so continuing your journey via public transport couldn’t be easier. Onward travel information from Wilmslow Station is available to download here.

Routes to Manchester are available via Stockport.

Things to do in Wilmslow

There is plenty to keep you entertained if you choose to visit Wilmslow with CrossCountry. The town has been holding an annual Scarecrow Festival since 2010 and is sponsored by the local Rotary club. The event involves dozens of local businesses and nearly a hundred scarecrows being paraded through the town.

For the active visitor there is an annual half-marathon which usually takes place in March as part of the Wilmslow Running Festival, and a 10k race is held in November. In September 2021, the town also held its first Festival of Nature which included a car-free street festival, talks, exhibitions and other family events.

If you want something a bit more relaxing the town is home to tea rooms and a local theatre. You can even take part in a variety of cookery classes at the Wilmslow Kitchen Cookery School to enhance your cooking skills. Wilmslow town centre also offers a range of shopping and leisure options; where you can top off your visit with a stop at one of the many local cafes and restaurants.
